Parental Consent Laws Are Blocking Teens from Mental Health Care.

17 states require parental consent for adolescents to get mental health care.

The requirement is a barrier and fewer adolescents are getting the help they need.

Jessica Schleider, PhD and her team at the Lab for Scalable Mental Health just published a research letter showing that only 37% of adolescents with depression were able to access any form of care in those states.

47% of adolescents with depression accessed some kind of care in the other states - 8 states have no requirements at all and 25 have limited requirements.

Here’s yet another barrier to mental health care we could eliminate right away, improving access for millions of youth.
