Don’t worry about hurting your therapist’s feelings.
If you don’t feel a connection, it’s OK to move on.
In fact, you probably should.
The connection between you and your therapist is called the “therapeutic alliance”.
If the alliance is weak, therapy is unlikely to work.
If the alliance is strong, healing can happen.
Here are 7 signs that your therapist isn’t a good fit.
- You’re not making progress.
- You don’t feel validated or heard.
- You feel judged.
- Your therapist displays unethical behavior.
- Your religion, culture, or personal values aren’t honored.
- Your therapist overshares.
- Your therapist seems to have just one script.
Don’t settle. Find a therapist who gets you.
(BTW - This goes for your relationship with any mental health professional.)
